Placed between Hartfield and East Grinstead on the Sussex border, this Castle was built as Henry VIII's hunting lodge for when he would hunt boar in the Ashdown forest. The castle is a mere five miles away from Anne Boleyn's childhood home at Hever Castle in Kent and was the set for the film "The other Boleyn girl".
The castle was then up kept and preserved by the Earls and Dukes of Dorset who even added to the accumulated history of the place. The house and grounds are open to the public and tours are organised. Prior booking is advised by the castle as the number places available for the guided tours are limited.
Also one should note that the Pooh tours around Hartfield start at Bolebroke Castle: an all-time kids favourite!
