Built in the 4th century, Pevensey castle is the proverbial historical onion of the South-East defense system as era aftrer era have added layers over the top of the preexisting defenses.
The castle was first commissioned by a self styled roman Emperor of Britain and North Gaul, Caraucius, around the year 300 and last put to military use as camoflarged pillboxes were installed during World War II.
The place is maintained by the English Heritage and is real landmark of culture and history in the landscape of the british past.
Situated in East Sussex, the castle is easily accessible by car (A259), train (Pevensey & Westham or Pevensey Bay) and by Bus from Eastbourne.
