When one talks about the historical castles of Sussex, one must talk of Lewes castle. Built by one of William the conquerors followers Wlliam de Warenne after the Norman conquest, the castle now plays host to the Sussex Archaeological Society. Restoration work was carried out during the winter season of 2008-2009 and the castle is once again open to the public.
