Built by order of Henry VIII, Camber castle is a great place to visit. The castle was completed in 1544 and abandoned in 1637 because the silting up of the local rivers made its strategic placement obsolete. The short period of usage and the fact that it was abandoned makes the castle a highly interesting place as it conserves just one style: that of Henry VIII.
The only real drawback to visiting this castle is the treck that must be carried out on foot between Rye and the caastle. It is prudent to be well prepared as the site is very exposed.
